The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing on April 10 for Srikanth Sri Srinivasan to the Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia, reports The Indian Express.

The hearing will come a year after Srinivasan was first nominated by President Obama. If confirmed, Srinivasan would become the first South Asian Circuit Court Judge in US history.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carneysays the nominee is more than qualified.

“He has argued before the Supreme Court 24 times, drafted briefs and several dozen additional cases, and has also served as lead counsel in numerous cases before the federal and state appellate courts,” Carney said yesterday.

Six Democrats and six Republicans all announced their support for Srinivasan.

The delay in scheduling a confirmation hearing has become a  pattern since Obama was elected. More on that in the  Indian Express.
