SF Chronicle: Ro Khanna Announced Bid to Unseat @RepMikeHonda. Updated with Honda Response

Mike HondaRo KhannaFormer Obama Official Ro Khanna announced Monday he will challenge six term Rep Mike Honda for the congressional seat in San Jose, reports the SF Chronicle.

“Our campaign is going to be a campaign of Silicon Valley,” he said, “taking those ideas to the nation’s capital, and being very proud of understanding technology issues … understanding the challenges for entrepreneurs.”

 The district has the highest concentration of South Asian voters in the country. Khanna served as deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Obama. Honda has already been endorsed by the President and Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi in what will be a closely watched match ups of Democrats.
Khanna has  raised $1.2 million dollars in his election campaign.
 This Afternoon, the Honda campaign sent AsAmNews this statement:
“The beauty of a free country is that anyone has the right to run,” Congressman Mike Honda said. “I’ve taken every one of my campaigns seriously and this will be no different.  I’m grateful for the early support I’ve received, from President Obama to local leaders across the district, and I’m looking forward to our strongest campaign yet in 2014.”
