Advance Monticellonian: New Museum to Open at Rowher Incarceration Camp

Rowher Relocation CenterA new museum dedicated to the Japanese American experience in incarceration camps at the Rowher (pictured here, WRA Photograph, National Archives) and Jereme Relocation Centers in Arkansas will be dedicated April 16th, reports the Advance Monticellonian.

Actor George Takei who along with his family was imprisoned at Rowher when he was just 5-years-old will be master of ceremonies.  The Jerome-Rohwer Interpretive and Visitor Center will be housed in McGehee’s historic train depot.

“Communicating with former internees and their children has been so meaningful and educational,” said Cindy Smith of McGehee,  chair of the Arkansas Parks, Recreation and Travel Commission.  “It is a pleasure for the city of McGehee to help preserve this history.”
