CATEGORIES

girlSuicide is the second leading cause of death among Asian American college students, according to the American Psychological Association. reports the  Daily Pennsylvanian

“A lot of Asian students are second-generation so there is that increased pressure to make sure that the sacrifices your parents made to come here were worth it, so you want to make them proud,” said Michelle Leong, former chair of the Asian Pacific Student Coalition.

This week the coalition on the University of Pennsylvania campus joined with Counseling and Psychological Services to promote mental health awareness among Asian American students.  Curtis Lee is chair of APSC. Hee says those pressures “constrain Asians to the stereotype of successful and hardworking.”
