Legendary action hero and martial arts star Bruce Lee will be honored at the third annual Asian Awards on April 16th, reports IndianTelevision.com.
His wife Linda Lee Caldwell will accept the Founders Award on his behalf at the show in London. Lee died 40 years ago on July 20, 1973 at the age of 32 after collapsing during dubbing work for Enter the Dragon.
Other film credits include The Big Boss, the Fist of Fury and Way of the Dragon. But it was his role of Kato on the short lived television series, the Green Hornet which launched his acting career. The show was a big hit in Hong Kong and Golden Harvest signed him to a film contract.
“Bruce Lee was the first person of Asian descent to successfully crossover into Hollywood and make such a dramatic impact on western cinema,” Asian Awards founder Paul Sagoo said. “You can argue that if it wasn’t for Lee, Asian culture and martial arts would never have really penetrated western culture and we wouldn’t have Jackie Chan, Jet Li and now actors like Irrfan Khan, who starred in Life of Pi.”
