Just a week after Justin Lin (pictured here) announced he would not be directing Fast & Furious 7, ContactMusic.com reports Malaysian-born Australian film producer, screenwriter and film director James Wan would be stepping in to replace Lin
Wan who is of Chinese heritage has directed the first Saw movie and last year’s hit, Insidious.
Lin is credited with reenergizing the Fast & Furious franchise and has directed the last four in the series. He is wrapping up post production on Fast & Furious 6 and did not want to rush the next installment. Universal has scheduled a summer 2014 release for Fast & Furious 7.
Lin praised Universal’s choice to succeed him.
“It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.”
