Rafu Shimpo:# Hapas Expected to Be Majority in #JapaneseAmerican Community in 7 Years

Visible & InvisibleMixed race Japanese Americans or Hapas are expected to be the norm in the Japanese American community by 2020–less than 7 years away, reports the Rafu Shimpo.

By the next census, the majority of Japanese Americans will be multiracial. The Japanese American National Museum is recognizing this new reality with a special exhibition. Visible and Invisible explores the early history of Japanese American multi-racial families, the treatment of Hapas on both sides of the Pacific and a look at anti-miscegenation laws in the United States.

Nisei Week Queen Emily Folick enjoyed seeing so many fellow Hapas.

“I’ve never felt more at home,” she said.
