posted by Randall

Nonito DonaireGuillermo Rigondeaux defeated Nonito Donaire in a unanimous decision Saturday night to win the WBO Super Bantamweight Belt and retain his WBA super bantamweight championship, reports the Washington Post via the Associated Press.

Rigondeaux won 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111 in the unification bout to retain undefeated in 12 bouts. It was the Filipino Flash’s first defeat in 30 fights since 2001.

Donaire the 2012 Professional Writer’s Boxing Association fighter of the year appeared to have knocked down Rigondeaux in the 10th round, but the referee ruled it a slip.

Rigoondeaux used his speed to avoid most of Donaire’s punches who landed just 82 of 352.

The fight was held at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, just the second time a fight has been held there in its 82 year history.
