First Post: More Green Cards, Less Family Visas Under New Immigration Bill

Statue of LibertyApplicants for green cards from India & China would clearly benefit under a new immigration reform bill introduced by the so-called gang of eight, a bi-partisan group of US Senators, according to First Post.

The two countries account for the largest number of  work visas.  Under the new bill, the cap on work visas from each country would be eliminated.

However, US citizens would no longer be able to sponsor their brothers and sisters to come to this country and would not be able to sponsor their adult children if they are more than 30-years old.

“We applaud the bi-partisan Senate leadership for putting forth a proposal that is a substantial step in the right direction toward fixing our broken immigration system and a solid starting point for addressing the current backlogs,” said Mee Moua, president and executive director of Asian American Justice Center (AAJC). “Nevertheless, we are deeply concerned about the elimination of visa categories pertaining to siblings and married adult children over the age of 30.”
