A compromise has been reached in a disagreement within the Korean American community that threatened the dedication of a comfort women memorial in Fort Lee, New Jersey, reports JDP.
The Korean American Civic Empowerment group or KACE objected to the memorial saying it was too politicized.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Korean Vietnam War Veterans Association had commissioned the original design and found the protests to be distasteful. But ultimately the groups agreed to the compromise so as not to aggravate the situation.
The background will now feature a golden sun instead of a Japanese imperial flag. The words “sexual slavery” and “armed forces of Imperial Japan” have been added to the inscription.
A dedication ceremony will be held May 18th in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
