Plans by an air show in Ohio to re-enact the atomic bomb drops on Japan in World War II have been scrapped, reports The Gazette.

A Dayton Air Show spokesman said the re-enactment was meant to help end the war and save lives.

But an on-line petition was launched saying the re-enactment was a “glamorization of destruction.”

“We didn’t want it to become a distraction to the overall quality of the show,”  said Brenda Kerfoot, an airshow spokesman.

Protestors said they’re pleased with the decision.

“It would have been pretty much a celebration of dropping the bomb that killed hundreds of thousands of people. We are a city of peace,” said Gabriela Pickett started the online petition

The air show is planned for June 22- 23.
