mindy projectSeveral Asian Americans have been named to Time’s List of most influential people, including actress and comedian Mindy Kaling and Kickstarter co-founder Perry Chen.

According to Time, Mindy Kaling “embodies the trifecta of being brilliant, wonderful and hilarious.” and “simultaneously commands respect and affection.” She is an author and winner of numerous Screen Actor Guild awards. But she is best known for her roles on the Office and the Mindy Project, which she also write and executive produces.

Kamala HarrisAnother Indian American named to the list is California Attorney General Kamala Harris (pictured here). She is the first South Asian, African American and women to be elected to the office. And she’s been touted as a possible future US Supreme Court nominee and the next Governor of California.

Perry Chen founded Kickstarter, which Time describes as “smart and magical.” Through crowdfunding, entrepreneurs can range funds for various projects from backers who willingly give their money to projects in exchange for a gift.  His site has raised $568 million for nearly 100,000 projects.

Erica Kochi has used her smarts for international causes. This staffer for UNICEF has helped Nigeria to keep track of its 6 million births this year, making it more likely for these children to receive vaccinations and an education.
