Showbiz Junkies: Justin Lin Talks About Not Doing Fast and Furious 6 and His Interest in TV

CATEGORIES

Justin LinDuring the recent 2013 CinemaCon in Las Vegas, film director Justin Lin the talked about his next step after Fast and Furious 6 and going into TV some day.

Q: What’s the reason behind not doing the Fast and Furious 7?

Lin: I’ve done four of these. Every time we got an opportunity to do another one, there are certain things I have to line up. I just felt like it was time on this one. It seems very appropriate that we were able to wrap a lot of things up.

Now eight years later we’ve been able to fulfill everything. The franchise is in a great place. It’s time for me to move on and let someone else take over.

Q: What do you want to do next? Do you want to stick with action movie?

Lin: I’ve been very fortunate last ten years. I came from the indie world where I was making credit card movies ten years ago. Now I have the opportunity to develop and work on everything from mini-budget, low-budget, big-budget, to comedies, different genres. Having these choices mean everything to me. It’s something I dreamed of ten years ago, and something I don’t take lightly.

I really want to enjoy the end of 6, take a couple days, and work on stuff. It could be a big action movie. It could be an indie, drama. Whatever comes alive, I’m going to jump on it.

Q: Would you be interested in going into TV in the future? What TV are you watching right now?

Lin: Oh definitely. I love Community, Breaking Bad and Homeland. I love TV because it’s a medium right now where you can really explore characters through long arcs. That’s something I love doing as a film maker and something I look forward to.
