Huffington Post: Accused White Supremacist Steps Down from Gov @NikkiHaley Reelection Campaign

Nikki HaleyA man on South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s reelection campaign has stepped down following a week long firestorm in which he was accused of being a white supremacist, reports the Huffington Post.

Roan Garcia-Quintana is one of several dozen volunteers named as co-chairs of Haley’s campaign. Last week the Southern Poverty Law Center tied Garcia-Quinatana to the Council of Conservative Citizens, an organization the law center listed as a “white nationalist hate group.”

Haley’s campaign up until today had remained firm in its support for Garcia-Quintana.

But the Columbia Patch reported that Haley asked him to resign today, and he did.

A statement from the Haley campaign read: “We were previously unaware of some of the statements he(Garcia-Quinatana) had made, statements which do not well represent the views of the Governor. There is no place for racially divisive rhetoric in the politics or governance of South Carolina, and Governor Haley has no tolerance for it.

You can read more about what lead up to Garcia-Quintana’s resignation in the Huffington Post.
