Plos: Photonovels Educate Asian Community About Hep B

CATEGORIES

Hep B PhotonovelsThe  adage  “a picture is worth a thousand words” is exemplified by new photonovels targeting the Asian American community to educate them about hepatitis B, according to a blog by PLOS, the Public Library of Science.

The infectious liver disease hits Asian Americans especially hard, particularly recent immigrants because Hep B is endemic to many Asian countries.

These comic book-like and culturally appropriate photonovels were developed by Sunmin Lee and her colleagues at the University of Maryland School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Three such photonovels have been published in Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese languages. 90 percent of those surveyed after receiving the photonovels agreed that the books presented much useful information.

You can get the free photonovels in pdf  format  and you can read more about the project in PLOS
