The Philippine Embassy is raising concerns about the police shooting death of a Filipino American handing out samples at Costco in Sterling, VA, reports the Inquirer.
“We share the concerns” expressed by the family of the victim, Mylene De Leon Scott, and the Filipino American community that police officers “may have responded with disproportionate force.” said Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr.
According to witnesses, Scott became agitated and began waving a knife and scissors.
An officer tried to use a stun gun on Scott, but when that didn’t work, another officer shot and killed her.
Scott worked for a Costco subcontractor, Club Demonstration Services, Inc., which described her as a “a valued member of the team” and “a respected associate.”
