Eurasia Review: Muslim American Sues FBI alleging Months of torture

CATEGORIES

Scales of justiceA Muslim American from Sudan has filed a $30 million lawsuit charging he was held illegally for 106 days by the FBI and endured severe beatings, reports the EurAsia Review.

Yonas Fikre is the fourth person from Portland, Oregon who has made similar allegations.

“We want this practice to be exposed and stopped,” said Tom Nelson, Fikre’s attorney.

Fikre says his troubles began when he refused an FBI request to become an informant at a mosque he was attending in Portland.

A year later he was detained during a business trip to the the United Arab Emirates. There he said he was detained for 106 days and beaten repeatedly.

“[Fikre] thus inquired whether his confinement and mistreatment was at the request of the FBI,” according to the lawsuit. “On each such occasion, the interrogators responded by beating plaintiff severely.”

The State Department confirms he was detained on unspecified charges. The FBI has refused to comment.

Fikre was finally released, but found that he had been placed on the no fly list. He has since taken refuge in Sweden.
