Some Yiddish experts cited by the New York Times say National Spelling Bee champ Arvind Mahankali misspelled the winning word, reports the Times of India.
Mahankali spelled out k-n-a-i-d-e-l, which is a dumpling that Jewish cooks put in chicken soup.
But some from the Jewish community say the word should be spelled kneydl.
Judges however defend their decision saying Mahankali’s spelling is the one used by Webster’s Third New International Dictionary.
