Phil Star: Washington Post Calls for Release of Video in Police Shooting of Fil-Am at Costco

CATEGORIES

Police LineThe Washington Post is urging authorities to release surveillance video of a police shooting in Virginia at a local Costco, reports the Phil Star.

Mylene de Leon-Scott worked at the Costco in Sterling, VA passing out food samples. Police say the five feet, 100 pound woman began acting erratically waving a knife when they were called.

Police shot her to death when authorities say she refused to put down the knife and lunged toward officers.

In an editorial the Post wrote “Authorities would be well advised to release whatever footage of the incident exists as soon as possible.”

Refusing, said the Post would “only invite further questions, and suspicions, about the prudence of the deputies’ actions and the circumstances of Ms. Scott’s death,”

Members of the Filipino American community and the Philippine Consulate have called for a full inquiry.

The Post editorial described as “premature” a Sheriff statement that officer did everything according to the book.

You can read more about the editorial in the Phil Star.
