Andy Lau is arguably the most popular actor in Hong Kong, maybe even China. His films between 1985 and 2005 grossed more than Jackie Chan and Stephen Chow, according to Post Noon

Yet Lau is not well known outside Hong Kong and China. He doesn’t have the international stardom of Chan, Jet Li, & Bruce Lee.

Lau’s new movie Switch comes out later this week. It’s nearly the 160th film for the prolific Lau who’s acting career spans three decades.

He is best known in the movie world  for Internal Affairs which inspired Martin Scorcese’s Departed.

Andy Lau played the role of a senior inspector. In the English version,  Matt Damon stepped into that part.

Internal Affairs earned 22 Hong Kong film awards and spawned both a prequel and a sequel.

You can read a closer look at Internal Affairs in Post Noon,
