Asian Law CaucusThe deportation order against the wife of a member of the U.S. Army has been cancelled after an outpouring of support, according to the Asian Law Caucus.

Karla Garelan is an undocumented immigrant from the Philippines and mother of a 9 month old baby boy.

Immigration authorities had ordered her to be deported this Sunday on Father’s Day.

Hundreds of people wrote e-mails and made phone calls on her behalf following a news conference outlining her plight.

She would have been deported under the controversial Secure Communities program. Also known as the S-Comm, the program mandates that local police turn undocumented immigrants over to immigration even if they have not been charged with a crime.

Her attorneys accused immigration of pressuring Karla into waiving her rights and agreeing to the deportation.

Today eight members of Congress called on the temporary halt to deportations  while immigration reform moves through Congress.
