EW.com: M Night Shyamalan Didn’t Lie. Here’s the Real Story

CATEGORIES

She's All thatThe brouhaha over whether director M Night Shyamalan lied about his involvement with the 1999 classic “She’s All That” may have been put to rest, reports EW.com.

The director reviewed on May 29 that he ghostwrote the movie. Since then the entertainment media has been abuzz about the revelation, although EW.com. pointed out that director Robert Iscove said that much in his audio commentary of the movie.

But then this week screenwriter R. Lee Fleming Jr who got the screen credit for penning the movie threw cold water on reports of Shyamalan’s contribution.

“Only in his own mind,” Fleming Jr tweeted in response to another tweet about the story.

Now movie producer and Miramax’s head of development in the late 90′;s, Jack Lechner,  has set the record straight.

“R. Lee Fleming wrote the script we bought, which is recognizably the same movie you saw. M. Night Shyamalan did an uncredited rewrite on the script, and a very good one that got the movie green-lit.”

Lechner would later explained “He (Shyamalan) did a solid rewrite … He made it deeper, made the characters richer.”

So now the story is cleared up, and Shyamalan’s good name has been cleared.
