Boston.com: Bilingual Ballots in Danger in Massachusetts.

votingA push is on to extend a state law in Massachusetts that mandates bilingual ballots in communities where more than 5 percent of the population has limited English proficiency, reports Boston.com.

The law is set to expire at the end of the year unless the state legislature passes a bill that would eliminate the expiration date.

The Vietnamese and Chinese communities of Dorchester are meeting on Thursday to plan their strategy in support of the bill.

“There has been some push back against the cost, but we’re trying to show that it is needed and does help get people out to vote.” said Phi Tran, a coordinator for the Dorchester Organizing and Training Initiative.
