A study from Brown University has found that people from the Chinese and Vietnamese American communities are as segregated as Latinos, according to a story in MENAFN.
However the segregation doesn’t necessarily mean Asian Americans live in impoverished neighborhoods. The Brown study found in many cities, Asian Americans live in “ethnoburbs,” suburban areas such as Monterey Park with income and educational levels as high or higher than white neighborhoods.
The study does not appear to reflect areas such as San Francisco Chinatown, where Chinese immigrants live in a densely populated low income neighborhood.
Cambodian and Samoan Americans also live in such areas, warns the civil rights group, Asian Americans Advancing Justice in Los Angeles.
