Conservative Filipino American Catholics expressed sadnesss over the Supreme Court rulings that gutted the Defense of Marriage Act and overturned the ban on gay marriage in California, reported ABS CBN.
“That’s not good, that’s not right. We won the vote remember? Marriage is only for women and men. But what happened?” said Adel Reyes.
At a morning mass at St. Augustine Church in South San Francisco, some Catholic said they felt the ruling went against their faith. But others were defiant.
“There’s going to be appeals to turn this back,” said Gracita Bitanga.
It’s believed there are about 120,000 married same sex couples in the United States where it is legal in 13 states including California.
