ABC: Study of Japanese Americans Finds Key to Preventing Alzheimer’s Disease

CATEGORIES

HealthThis story grabbed my attention because my father lived with Alzheimer’s during the last few  years of his life. Perhaps you had a similar experience.

A study of 18-hundred elderly Japanese Americans found that those who ate a lot of fruits and vegetables were less likely to get Alzheimer’s later in life, reports ABC.

Researchers followed up with those in their study over seven to nine years and found eating fruits and vegetables decreased the incidence of Alzheimer’s.

It was sad to see my father unable to remember me or even his grandchildren. His memory would come and go. Sometimes out of the blue, like I remember his last Christmas at home, when he became suddenly alert and all his faculties came back. He lit up when he saw the grand kids that day. He gave them the biggest hug when they sat on his lap.   It’s a memory I think my kids will also have.

I’d love to hear about any experiences you may have had with Alzheimer’s.

Meanwhile you can read eight tips for preventing Alzehimer’s on ABC.
