CNN is reporting that Korean American Kenneth Bae is asking for forgiveness and urging the United States to work for his release from a North Korean prison.
Bae was found guilty in North Korea April 30 for “hostile acts to bring down its government”
“Although my health is not good, I am being patient and coping well,” Bae said in an interview with Chosen Sinbo. “And I hope that with the help of the North Korean government and the United States, I will be released soon.”
The Washington state resident was sentenced to 15 year of hard labor following his conviction.
“There is no greater priority for us than the welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad and we urge the DPRK authorities to grant Mr. Bae amnesty and immediate release,” said Brent Byers, spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in South Korea.
