California Attorney General Kamala Harris is considering tracking hate crimes against Sikhs and Hindus, reports India West.
Harris would be following the lead of the FBI which agreed just last month to do the same thing.
Harsimran Kaur, staff attorney with the Sikh Coalition, said that Harris has indicated the state is willing to track those hate crimes.
It is widely believe the number of hate crimes against Sikhs and Hindus are largely unreported.
Kaur said nine out of 10 hate crimes against Sikhs happened to someone wearing a turban.
It’s possible due to the time needed to implement the tracking systems that California could be the first in nation to track such crimes.
