The Twittershere lit up today with posts from outraged fans upset that Mindy Kaling did not receive a nomination for best actress in a comedy for her show, the Mindy Project.
There were so many tweets that the Huffington Post put together a slide show of some of them.
” No noms for @mindykaling or The Mindy Project? Let’s riot, then cry and watch You’ve Got Mail. #IDemandARecount,” tweeted @RyderReally
@gifttogab213 tweeted “Why@mindykaling did not get nominated for an #Emmy, I will never know. ROBBED. #westilllovemindy #shemakesmelaughsohard
@KimberlyWGreen said “My feelings are hurt. No Emmy nom 4 @mindykaling as lead actress in a comedy for @mindyproject.”
Said another : “WTF. @mindykaling is soooo snubbed by Emmys for actress in a comedy series! YOU CAN BE MY BEST FRIEND AS A CONSOLATION PRIZE, MINDY.
The biggest problem for Kaling, according to Huffington Post television blogger Lori Fradkin, is the competition she faced.
Tina Fey, Laura Dern, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Poehler, Edie Falco and Lena Dunham were all deserving, according to Fradkin, and should and did get the nod over Kaling. All have been previously nominated.
If anyone asks me, it’s time to give the Emmys a new fresh coat of paint. Kaling received a writing nomination in 2010, but has never been recognized for her acting. A sassy down to earth comic such as Kaling is just what the awards show needs to give it new life. It’s time for the voters to take some risks.
