New Reuters/IPSOS Poll Finds Many Don’t Have Friends Outside Own Race


Community holding handsA new Reuters/IPSOS poll finds four out of ten white Americans surveyed say they don’t have any friends outside their own race.

One out of four non-white Americans say all their friends are exclusively of their own race.

Segregation remains a problem in the United States, but the poll finds this is a less of a problem among those under 30 and in certain regions of the country.

“Hispanics and Asian Americans have traditionally had less strict lines about integrating.” said Ann Morning, an associate professor in the department of sociology at New York University.
