Inquirer: Words of #Filipino American Legend Carlos #Bulosan Inspires Traveling Exhibition

CATEGORIES

I Want a Wide American EarthAn exhibition inspired by the words of Filipino American author and poet Carlos Bulosan will be moving to Los Angeles after it ends its run August 25 at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, reports the Inquirer.

The exhibition titled “I Want the Wide American Earth” will open September 14 through December 1 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

“You have someone who was born in the Philippines and, soon after the US-Philippine war, lived in the United States in pursuit of better opportunities. Like most immigrant communities, the life in the land of opportunity became an experience of hardship. And Bulosan wrote these great poems and stories [about the experience],” said Konrad Ng, director of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.

The exhibition begins with the  Asian immigration experience with the gold rush and   Transcontinental Railroad to the American Civil War through the building of the nation agricultural system.
You can read more about this exhibition and how Bulosan inspired it in the Inquirer.
