Angry Asian Man: Was Explusion of Asian American Student Justified After Offhanded Remark?

CATEGORIES

Henry LiuIt was a remark Henry Liu will regret for the rest of his life.

Angry Asian Man reports that some are questioning whether the expulsion of a Portland State student for safety concerns was an overreaction to what the student says was a offhanded remark.

Henry Liu was a graduate student at Portland State University in conflict resolution.

He mentioned to a fellow classmate that he was angry at a professor and mentioned guns in the same sentence.

The student quoted Liu as saying “he could get shot” and reported the remark to police.

Campus police arrested Liu,  sent him for psychiatric evaluation and banned him from Portland State. Flyers were even distributed warning students about Liu.

Liu was never charged. The psychiatric evaluation found him in good mental health. He has no history of violence.

Yet his suspension remains in effect. He has sued to overturn Portland State’s action.

You can read more about it in Angry Asian Man and on Liu’s website.
