Efforts to open an Asian American Center on the Purdue campus continue after a hate crime incident last spring. reports The Exponent.
“I certainly cannot speak for the whole population. However, I can say that there are many people who have difficult experiences here (at Purdue) based on their background and without the institutional support of a center for the Asian and Asian American community, it makes it all the more difficult for some,”Victoria Loong, a senior in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Health and Human Sciences, said.
Right now the emphasis is finding a temporary office until a permanent location can be approved.
“Unfortunately, the concept plan for the actual center has not yet been approved. In the interim, we are working towards securing a temporary office space so that we can be easily located and accessible to those on campus,” Loong said.
