A new survey released this morning by the Asian American Legal Defense & Education Fund and the Sikh Coalition found that half of the Asian American students surveyed in grade, middle and high school say they’ve been bullied.
“I’m pretty sure that number could be higher,” said Pawanpreet Singh, 16, told the New York Daily News. “I feel like people are worried about being called a snitch or being bullied further.”
According to the Daily News, the survey was a snapshot of 160 Asian American public school students.
In New York, specific regulations were put in place to deal with bullying. But today those regulations were questioned.
“There are key parts of the regulation that aren’t being implemented at all.” said Amardeep Singh, co-founder of the Sikh Coalition.
Bullying has become a major issue in the Asian American community and recently Darren Criss of Glee joined an anti-bullying campaign.
