Examiner.com: Kensuke Tanaka Cut from San Francisco Giants

Kenji Tanaka(correction: The original version of this article incorrectly identified Tanaka’s first name. It has been corrected in this version. We apologize for the error)

Kensuke Tanaka’s (photo by Emil Guillermo) quest to translate his stardom in Japanese baseball to the Major Leagues took a big step back when the San Francisco Giants this week cut him from the team, reports Examiner.com,

Tanaka cleared waivers, meaning no Major League team wanted to pick him up, and he is now a free agent.

His first week in the Major League’s got off to a good start when he made a stellar defensive play in left field and provided a spark plug for the Giants with his speed on the bases.

But it was down hill from there. Tanaka gave up a career in Japanese baseball where he was an all star to fulfill his dream of making it in the major leagues.

He tried out for the San Francisco Giants this spring, but failed to make the opening day roster and was sent to the minors. Tanaka was eventually called up in July before being sent down the following month. He returned to the team later, but when his second stint didn’t work out the Giants cut him.
