Priyanka ChopraBollywood star Priyanka Chopra (pictured), actress/comedian Mindy Kaling and comedian Russell Peters were just some of the big names with a presence at  the fourth annual  conference of the South Asian Media, Marketing and Entertainment in New York City, reports Indian Television.

Chopra who’s already one of the highest paid actresses in Bollywood is now expanding her presence in the United States. She’s the featured singer in the opening number to Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network and recently released a single with Pitbull.

She was one of the keynote speakers at the recent conference of the South Asian Media, Marketing and Entertainment. She talked about her crossover into a singing career and how hard work and perseverance have made her success possible .

Mindy Kaling and Russell Peters were among those honored with a Trailblazer Award. “It is strange to be called a trailblazer because I’ve never really considered myself one,” said Kaling who gave her acceptance speech via video. “I’ve always aspired to be the funniest person out there, not just the funniest south Asian.”

Peters was presented his award by Asif Mandvi of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

“When I was younger, I always wanted a Chevy Trailblazer, but this trailblazer I never imagined,” said Peters.  “I am honored and proud especially to be recognized by my own community.  The more doors we can open for each other the better for everyone.  I see more of us in the industry every day, and I want to continue seeing more of us.”
