UPDATED 10:35 PM: Pottery Barn tonight issued an apology for selling a kimono and sushi chef Halloween costume, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The furniture retailer also confirmed it had removed the costume for sale from its website.
Asian American Advancing Justice which has offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago says it did not object to the costumes itself, but it found “problematic packaging this type of dress as a costume.”
“Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are real people who cannot and should not be commodified as costumes,” said Ling Woo Liu of AAJC.
