Rafu Shimpo: Another Apology, but Sincerity Questioned in @JimmyKimmelLive Controversy

CATEGORIES

Jimmy KimmelLate night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel issued an on-air apology Monday night for the “kill everyone in China” comment aired on his show nearly two weeks earlier.

The apology did not satisfy members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, reports Rafu Shimpo.

“There seems to be a lot of people upset with me, more upset than usual … I think it was obvious that I didn’t agree with that statement, but apparently it wasn’t, said Kimmel.  “So I just want to say I am sorry. I apologize. It was certainly not my intent to upset anyone.”

The apology came shortly after ABC also apologized over the weekend and after protests against the comment  took place in both New York and San Francisco.

“While Mr. Kimmel’s on-air apology for his ‘Kids’ Table’ segment lacked substance or sincerity, I am glad that ABC Entertainment Group apologized for the offensive segment and addressed the matter with the seriousness that it merits,” said Rep Judy Chu (D-Pasadena), chairwoman of CAPAC.

Rep Mike Honda (D-San Jose) added “It is important for everyone, especially children, to realize that hate speech left unchecked is dangerous.  While Mr. Kimmel’s words still leave much to be desired, it is also up to all of us to ensure that everyone’s rights and dignity are respected.”

  1. RE: Another apology, but sincerity questioned in Jimmy Kimmel Live controversy: Would it be asking too much for the protesters to focus some of their efforts on issues that concern all citizens of the U.S. as a whole rather then selfish issues of race and personal gain?
Why not protest the NSA and illegal government spying? Why only focus on ridiculous issues that are deemed to be offensive only to themselves?
