Family, friends and fellow police officers said their last goodbyes this weekend to Officer Madhu Chohan–Hoboken, New Jersey’s first Indian American police officer, reports NJ.Com.
Chohan joined the force in 2008, but was forced to stop working immediately after being diagnosed with cancer in March of last year.
He died Wednesday while under hospice care.
“He taught us to always smile, to have compassion, to love,” said his sister Falguni Chohan.
Chohan received full police honors at his funeral.
