Think Progress: #Asian Americans Deserting @GOP

BallotAn analysis by  Think Progress shows Republicans are facing a monumental task to win back the Asian American vote.

Asian Americans overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama in 2012 by 73 percent to 26 percent, a trend that has been growing since the 1996 presidential race.

Republicans are vowing to turn that around, pledging 10 million dollars to court the Asian American vote and putting up a number of Asian American candidates in congressional races across the country.

Here’s what the GOP is facing.

A new poll from CAP and PolicyLink shows Asian Americans are more supportive of diversity than even African Americans and Latinos.

The poll results are based on answers to 16 questions measuring support for various issues related to diversity.

Asian Americans scored 97, followed by African Americans at 93, Latinos 90 and whites 84.

Other polls have found Asian Americans favor bigger government offering more service while Republicans are associated with smaller government. Asians also rank immigration reform as an important issue, an area that until recently was not a priority for the GOP.
