The death toll from Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines has now reached at least 100, according to aviation officials in the country, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Tacloban airport manager is quoted as saying “100-plus dead, lying on the streets, with 100 plus injured”.
Tacloban is the capital of Leyte, an island with 2 million people.
Rescuers and communication equipment is being rushed to the island.
Another 5 people are confirmed dead in the Central Philippines.
The storm hit Leyte and nearby Samar island with winds topping at 195 miles an hour, one of the biggest ever to hit landfall.
It is now headed to Vietnam where it is expected to hit Saturday.
Thousands there have already evacuated.
