New ads in Chinese and other languages have been unveiled to enroll Asians and other language minorities into California’s part in President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, Covered California, reports New American Media.
“A New Era in Affordable Health Care,” proclaimed one billboard in Chinese.
An estimated 27 percent of California’s 5.3 million Asians qualify for subsidized health insurance under the program.
“Our mission is to increase access to health care in all segments of California, so reaching these diverse communities in their languages will be vital to educating people about the new marketplace and the benefits of getting covered,” said Peter Lee, Executive Director of Covered California.
Applicants must enroll by Dec 15 if they would like health coverage by January 1.
California’s website has not had the much publicized issues that the federal website has had, making it easier for Californians to enroll into the program.
