The first Japanese American to lead the Manzanar National Historical Site is retiring, reports Rafu Shimpo.
Les Inafuku spent 38 years with the National Park Service, the last five years as superintendent preserving Manzanar and guiding its future.
He recently worked hard to fight a proposal by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to locate a solar ranch in sight of Manzanar.
Inafuku convinced officials to hold public hearings in Los Angeles to allow Japanese Americans to offer greater input. Strong opposition succeeded in winning the extension of the Environmental Impact Report comment period beyond the original November 4 deadline.
