Times of India: South Asians need more exercise than Europeans

CATEGORIES

exerciseSouth Asians need to exercise 20 minutes more per day than Europeans to achieve the same results, according to a new study from the University of Glasgow’s Institute for Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences.

The Times of India reports that current guidelines call for 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, but South Asians need 250 hours per week.

Previous studies focused on just white Europeans, but in the Glasgow study 75 South Asian and 83 European men aged between 40 and 70 participated in the study.

Researchers concluded ethnicity would need to be taken into account to figure out each person’s heart disease and diabetes risk profile.

You can read more about their findings in the Times of India.
