An apartment owner accused of only renting to South Asian Americans and Middle Easterners if she had openings in specific buildings has been order to pay a fines totaling more than $300,000, reports the Dallas News.
The owners and management of the 184 unit Stonebridge at Bear Creek in Dallas were charged with violating the Fair Housing Act.
The Justice Department accused the owner of referring to South Asian Americans and Middle Easterners as those “curry” people who she routinely described as “dirty” and who “stink.”
The management of the Stonebridge company said it agreed to the settlement without admission of guilt.
This investigation had been going on for almost four years,” said Nancy Hart, vice-president of operations for S & H Realty. “We are not admitting any wrongdoing.”
