Japan Times: #MiraiEarnedIt, but what do the Asian American ice queens think?

Kristi YamaguchiMichelle KwanDespite extensive coverage in the mainstream media and social media, two key figures in the skating world have largely been silent on the Mirai Nagasu controversy.

Olympic Gold Medalist Kristi Yamaguchi and five time world champion Michelle Kwan(photo by kevinrushforth) have remained silent on the issue.

A Google search looking for comments from Yamaguchi and Kwan on Nagasu came up empty.

The Japan Times reports it reached out to Yamaguchi for comment, but did not hear back.

Could it be the US Figure Skating Association has been a muzzle on its skaters.

Or is this a family feud within the skating world that Yamaguchi and Kwan don’t want to speak public on?

What do you think? Do Kwan and Yamaguchi have an obligation to speak out on this issue or should we cut them some slack?

You can read more on this issue in the Japan Times,

  2. RE: What do Asian American ice queens think about Mirai Nagasu controversy: Hi Randall,

No, I actually think Yamaguchi and Kwan ought to remain silent on this. They are former athletes with deep legacies, and they have too much to lose by speaking up. It’ll be better for them and us if they just let the critics get their hands dirty on this one. Politics is messy. They should keep their hands clean on this one and leave the complaining to us.
