Filipino American composer Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez have received a Best Original Song Oscar nomination for their song Let It Go, featured in the Disney animated hit, Frozen.
The powerful ballad is sung by Idina Menzel. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the same category but lost out to U2 and Danger Mouse’s Ordinary Love, featured in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
“We couldn’t be prouder to see our song ‘Let It Go’ receive an Oscar nomination. It’s a reflection of all the effort that went into the song from the dozens, if not hundreds, of people at Disney Animation who added their talents to it. We hope the song and its message of empowerment continue to spread,” said Lopez and Anderson in a joint statement.
Lopez and Anderson will compete with music composed by Pharrell Williams and Karen O, among others, at the 86th Academy Awards Ceremony on March 2 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
