The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that director Justin Lin of Fast & Furious and Better Luck Tomorrow fame has won the rights to the Sundance documentary, The Battered Bastards of Baseball.
Lin’s company Perfect Storm reportedly beat out several big name studios for the remake rights including Fox Searchlight, Dreamworks and Columbia Pictures.
The film is the story of the late Bing Russell who in 1973 founded the Portland Mavericks, the only independent baseball team at the time. Russell defied skeptics who insisted his idea was doomed to failure.
