Religious News Service: Commercial praised as step forward for acceptance of Muslims in US

Best Buy commercial with MuslimA Best Buy commercial aired during the American Football Conference championship game is being praised for its portrayal of a Muslim American, reports Religious News Service.

The ad shows a clean shaven salesman named Mustafa interacting with customers and watching football on his big screen TV at home with friends.

“He has all the right stuff,” said Timothy de Waal Malefyt,an advertising executive and professor at New York’s Fordham University. “He has a girlfriend. He has Anglo friends. And he’s watching ‘Despicable Me’ and football. It’s very American.”

Mustafa is actually Best Buy employee Mustafa Hakami.
