LA Times: Racist sexist flyer like one sent to UCLA also sent to AAPIs at USC

USC Asian Pacific American Student ServicesA racist and sexist flyer similar to one sent to UCLA’s Asian American Studies Center has also been sent to USC’s Asian Pacific American Student Services Department, reports the Los Angeles Times.

USC has submitted the matter to the school’s public safety force.

“We feel the need to make a statement that is clear and direct,” wrote Mary Ho, director of Asian Pacific American Student Services and Jonathan Wang, Assistant Director in a joint letter.  “We will not tolerate such harmful, derogatory and racist slurs directed at the Asian Pacific American community or at any communities.

“The Trojan community prides itself on creating a campus of support and inclusion and we will continue to promote an environment that affirms all identities.”

The letter was received February 1, but USC delayed responding to it because it did not want to give legitimacy to those behind it.

Both letters contained racist and sexist language about Asian women dating white men.

At UCLA today, about 50 students participated in a rally designed to draw attention to what they say is a campus environment that perpetuates Asian American stereotypes.

You can read more about that in the Los Angeles Times.

  1. RE: Racist sexist flyer like the one sent to UCLA also sent to USC: I thinking that if there are other colleges with a sizable APA student population, it will happen again. It might be the same individual or group that is sending these flyers out. Guess USC will hold a rally themselves. If I recall, there are no APA elected city council persons in office. I maybe wrong, but there are, they should get involved.
